Faces and Feelings

I like making faces on objects, even if they aren’t humans. A skillet can look brave. A teacup can look sleepy. A pumpkin can look silly and cheerful.

Shapes Show Emotion

Eyebrows show the attitude. Eyes show excitement or calmness. Mouth shapes show happiness, surprise, or worry. Even shadows can make a character feel thoughtful or dramatic.

Color Helps Tell the Story

Bright colors feel playful. Soft colors feel calm. Dark colors feel mysterious. Color is like emotion on the page.

Here are a few sketches where I am learning to show emotion.
